today had some great progress made! i have my basic plot, concepts and location. its going to be a paranormal jump scare puzzle sort of game (think amnesia) but also detective mystery solving. its also going to take place in my school! i already have the first five or so minutes of game play planned. the character is coming a bit more tricky though. he needs technical capabilities involving being able to hack into computer systems using a rooted android device running some sort of linux based hacking distro.... the nerd is bleeding into the game and i cant stop it! haha! for the sake of easily obtainable images, i'm going to model the character off myself. which brings us to our next issue: software! i want to go as open source as possible, that means gimp and blender, um not great in blender yet though, so i need to work on that a bit. as for engine, i installed UDK for the time being, i was originaly going to use HPL (amnesia engine) but UDK looks nicer, open to other options though, CRYengine looks nice and so does Source. they all have quite the learning curve though, so this may be a while... anyway, that's it for todays update, comment (if anyone actually reads these) with advice or suggestions, i'd appreciate all the help i can get

press any button to start game

I start this as a development diary for a game I aspire to make. I have taken basic classes on the concepts of design games, but 2d side scollers aren't what im looking for. I'm looking to make a first person tower defense game. it will be dark and scary at night, lots of jump scares and monsters, but by day, you try to find weapons and supplies to outfit the tower. im not sure if i want it to be a small map, a big map, scripted, sand box or what... i do, however, have a general aesthetic. black mesa industrial with grimy portal 2 age and bloody horrible Gears of war death. maybe the tower could be a light house..? not sure yet, but this is a good start! ive been sketching, ill post concept art here, i need to decide on an engine though, thankfully, most development kits are free, so i should be fine. until tomorrow.
